What to expect
It can be hard to seek help, especially if it’s a step into the unknown. Below is an outline of the process so you know what will happen.
Fill out the contact form: This is the first step on the journey. Please make sure to include why you are seeking counselling and what you would like to get out of it, as this will help to tailor support.
Follow up phone call: You will receive a phone call from me to arrange a time, date and location for the initial consultation.
Initial Consultation: The initial consultation is an important time where we can get to know each other better, you can ask questions and decide if I am the right person to speak to. Being comfortable with your therapist, feeling safe and listened to, are key. If that’s me, wonderful. If you want to keep searching then that is fine too. I have trusted colleagues whom I could recommend.
Sessions: If you decide to proceed then we will move into therapy sessions, which last for 50 minutes. These are times for you to raise the topics that you would like to speak about. It is up to you how much you share, depending on how comfortable you are to do so. You will never be pressured; I seek to create a warm and caring environment of trust and respect.
After the session: I recommend that after the session is completed you give yourself some time to process everything. Try not to rush straight back into the stresses of work and life, if you can avoid it. Go for a coffee, take a walk, try to create a space to reflect for a while.
